School of Art Endowment Fund

In April, 1991 the Students of the School of Art, University of Manitoba held their first Referedum (vote) in order to support an existing School of Art Endowment Fund. Over the years, students voted to support additional funds, including:

  1. School of Art Endowment Fund: initiatives of the School of Art, as an institution
  2. Visiting Artist Fund: initiatives relevant to the larger School of Art community
  3. Student Equipment/Initiative Fund: historically been used to support Student initiatives

School of Art students have revisited these Referendums in 1994, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2011, 2013, 2015. We will be holding another referedum in the fall of 2017. For details of these past Referedums, please see the link below. These Referendums have been undertaken to revisit the needs of students and to adequately allocate funding for student projects.

The most recent Referendum of 2015 saw students allocate $2.66 per credit hour. This allocation was split into:

In fall of 2017, the Students of the School of Art, University of Manitoba will hold another Referendum.

The 2017-2018 SOFA Students Association Council is committed to ensuring the transparency and openness of this process. We are actively soliciting suggestions for the 2017 Referendum. Send us an email at sofasa@gmail.com or find us around school and we'll make this a conversation!

This is administered by the Faculty, has not been used in the last couple years.
This is not uncommon for a fund such as this which accumluates to be sufficient to be used for larger projects, purchases.

Student Equipment Initiative Fund (SEIF)

Terms of Reference
Application

A student initiative fund has been established by the School of Art Student Association in which money contributed shall be used in a manner that benefits the majority of the student body, as well as individual undergraduate students. It is not intended to become part of the faculty's core funding. Student Council will solicit proposals from the student body on an ongoing basis for the use of the funds available. Proposals are to be funded on a first come, first served basis. The use of allocated funds must fall within one or more of the following categories:

Proposals for funds that fall outside of the above-mentioned categories may be granted on consultation with the Department of Donor Relations (204-474-9752) to ensure they fall within University of Manitoba spending guidelines.

Advisory Committee

The decisions related to administer the funds from the Student Initiative Fund will be made by the executive SOFA council members. These are the Co-Presidents, UMSU Representative, Treasurer, Communications Director and Senator. This group will meet as needed throughout the academic year. Chosen proposals shall be presented to the Director (or designate) of the School of Art to make the final decision for disbursements of funds.

Visiting Artist Fund

Terms of Reference

A Visiting Artist Fund has been established by the School of Fine Art Student Association SOFA, and the School of Art faculty in which money contributed shall be used in a manner that benefits the majority of the student body, by hosting visiting artists and lecturers. It is not intended to become part of the faculty's core funding. The allocated funds must be used in one of the following manners:

Proposals for funds that fall outside of the above-mentioned categories may be granted on consultation with the Department of Donor Relations (204-474-9752) to ensure they fall within University of Manitoba spending guidelines.

Advisory Committee

The decisions regarding the disbursement of this fund can be made only by members of the Visiting Artist Committee, which should consist of:

The faculty members and the representative should be appointed by faculty council and the student representative appointed by SOFA. The committee will meet as needed during the academic year.

As of late August, 2017 There is currently NO established committee.
